Ah, you have an internal audio cable. Are you sure it's connected to the
right place on the soundcard and the corresponding mixer setting is
unmuted and the level adjusted? Many soundcards have multiple internal
connectors like CD, AUX, Video. There should be a mixer setting for 
each of connector. Line-in mixer setting will only affect the signal
coming from the external line-in connector.

That could be line-in or line-out. My Hauppauge WinTV has both.
