i could swear that i recall reading somewhere on that site that
the v4l support was of only limited backward compatibiity.

if so, it may not work. i'll see if ican find the reference i am 
thinging about, but you should look more closely at the 
compatilbity of the new to old as a potiential problem area.

i am personally fuzzy about what the subsets are...
