apparently won't work with my card (sound's gone immediately after I start
xawtv)

me too.
But it'd surprise me if there was the problem, as the EMU10K seems preety
well supported and everything else works fine.
Besides, the fact the radio sound works out, should prove the sound card to
be working, as I don't change input channels for tv sound - the TV card is
just not sending any sound then.
