  Sure but that wasn't my point.  My point was that I can't take
arbitrary input and send it out without first encoding it to MPEG.
Also, DVD-style RLE encoded subpictures are really quite poor and
annoying.  I have some notes on how much they suck over here:

  They're insufficient for nice-looking OSDs, IMHO.
