Stupid question: Why can't you use all the wonderful code in MPlayer?

Or better yet why can't all MPlayer, XINE, gstreamer, mp1e, etc, etc..
people get together to design a central multimedia core and have the
individual applications only be frontends to the central library. (I can
think of many reasons, but I want to know what the real reasons are).

There is also a very fine video editor in hiding known as Broadcast 2000,
and Cinelerra. Someone should force the guys behind it to stop playing
games and come out of hiding. Heroine Virtual/Warrior is NOT a
cooperation. "We're not a guy in dorm room trying to act like a
corporation."
