ready enough to be able to write applications, but these applications
usually don't have the functionality of "alternative" applications yet.
The problem here is that mplayer, for example, has had many people
working on it for a long time, while gstreamer's just shiny new...

We have a player library, which is able to play most formats quite well
(formats supported by gst, currently AVI with a variety of codecs,
quicktime, MPEG and a lot of audio stuff, maybe something I'm
forgetting). We do have plugins for framebuffer playback or hardware
playback (like the DC10+'s TV-out, someone has also written a sink for
the DXR3, etc.), but these require playback of the non-decoded frame,
and we don't have that function integrated in the applications yet, I
think.
