The problem here is that mplayer, for example, has had many people working on it for a long time, while gstreamer's just shiny new... > How about playing? We have a player library, which is able to play most formats quite well (formats supported by gst, currently AVI with a variety of codecs, quicktime, MPEG and a lot of audio stuff, maybe something I'm forgetting). We do have plugins for framebuffer playback or hardware playback (like the DC10+'s TV-out, someone has also written a sink for the DXR3, etc.), but these require playback of the non-decoded frame, and we don't have that function integrated in the applications yet, I think.
