I'm very pleased (i.e., can't stop grinning), to announce that I now have successful colour video capture (and audio, through a seperate Soundblaster card), using a Koutech 607A capture card (in the UK with a PAL video). By brute-force trial-and-error, I discovered that setting card=3 as option to the bttv module (STB, Gateway P/N 6000699 (bt848), says CARDLIST), I now get jolly good quality reception from the input composite signal.
