Hi all. I am new to this mailing list.

I have Linux 2.4.18 + bttv grabber (Slackware distribution). My audio card
has es1371 driver. I experienced the same problems as you with xmms but it
was related only to a conflict between os driver and esound / arts
soundserver. I got it work well only when I had Suse 7.1 installed, otherwise
I had to disable the sound server (eventually I used gqmpeg). I read about
installing the package xmms-kde to have it work well, but I never tried and I
neither know if you have Kde on.
       Hope to be useful.
