Hopefully it doesn't lock up your box as soon as you plug it in. If it
doesn't, try digging in /proc/video/dev and cat whichever file(s) are
there. Sometimes you'll run into some information.

You can apparently tell by the serial and part number. However, you did
say that you've determined that it's a quickcam express. You can find
drivers for it at http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/. Also, a decent list of
Logitech cams and drivers available at
http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/bio.html .

If you want to hack together something that deals with the compression the
camera uses (so you can get higher frame rates and image sizes) some guy
has reverse engineered the Quickcam Web at
http://www.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de/~delwi/quickcam/ .

It should also be noted that firewire at 400 mbps transfers some serious
data, and that firewire 2.0 due sometime is spec'ed at 800 mbps.

Cheers,
Brian
