Re: xawtv on RH73 with ATI AIW 128 Pro

I just finished working backwards towards "stock" RH 7.3 in an attempt to figure out where the problem was.

With stock RH 7.3 and DRI disabled: run xine, select file, play; runs on a sample unencrypted mpg

With stock RH 7.3 and DRI enabled: run xine, select file; X crashes, restarts and returns me to login.

With GATOS ati.2 binaries installed and DRI disabled: run xine, select file; machine locks up.

With GATOS ati.2 binaries installed and DRI enabled: run xine, select file; machine locks up; run ogle, select file; machine locks up.

With GATOS ati.2 binaries installed and drm module installed: same lockups.

With GATOS ati.2 binaries installed: xawtv runs fine.

In all cases, glxgears runs fine.

In all cases, all other use so far (Gimp, etc.) work just fine.

I also tried the above with and without libdvdcss, libdvdread rpms installed and got the same results.

This is very, very frustrating. I'm trying to support a "windows wienie" with a desire to come into the light and I am not instilling any confidence.

Now my question is is there any video with tv or video card plus tv card which actually works for TV, DVD, and, of course, normal use?

Is there such a card and/or combination that works via stock RH 7.3 plus some rpms (that is without having to get into building custom kernels, custom xfree86, etc.)?

I could have purchased half-a-dozen video/tv cards and/or software for the time I've wasted.
