I have no idea.

It compiles fine under 2.4.17. It dies under 2.4.2-2. I'm not a kernel
hacker, which is kind of my  point.

I'm down with the notion that every little package and update cannot be
supported. What I think a lot of folks need is a list of _all_ the package
and the versions that go together for a complete install. For example:

kernel 2.4.17
quicktime4linux1.3
mjpegtools-1.5-20011611
etc...

Plus, some packages need to be installed in a certain order because of
dependencies as stated before:

I'd be happy to host a site that would be a 'success' story venue where
folks might put up in 'blogger' fashion complete stories of how they got
things working.
