I agree - CPUs are so fast now that software mpeg encoding is nothing for
them, divx/mpeg4/etc a bit harder but still no problem.  And dumb hardware
/ smart software gives you the best chance to benefit from algorithm
improvements etc.

On the other hand - I have a dc10+ card and its great for analogue video
editting etc.
