Quailty of VIC image with bttv

Hi Folks,

We've been setting up some video conferencing tests and are now noticing
that the image produced/transmitted by VIC under Linux is not as good as
the quality of the image produced under Windows.

We are using what we have found to be the latest and same version of VIC
on both Windows and Linux (vic-2.8ucl-1.1.3) as well as using the same
computer hardware and camera. On Linux we are running bttv-0.7.57 on a
2.2.18 kernel.

What appears different on Linux is :

. the effect of what appears to be scan lines (grainy) around objects as
they move
. a constant adjustment being made of color on everthing in view.

We believe we can rule out the video card and bttv card as they produce
more acceptable (although slower) results under windows.

We are wondering if anyone could say whether this may be the result of the
video4linux interface on the driver side, or the video4linux coding on the
VIC side? Maybe someone else has experience in a similar situation?

Any insight always appreciated,
JES
