the photos aren't more tha shadows and stripes...

i use Redhat 7.1 and use xsane to get images, any idea??

I didn't even know that was possible. xsane tells me "No devices available" when I try that. Do you have a .drc file for it in ~/.sane/xsane/ ?

I recommend that you try Xawtv <http://www.strusel007.de/linux/xawtv/>. It nearly always works with this camera. If you still get this problem, try upgrading your kernel to 2.4.6 or later. There are some USB data corruption issues in earlier kernels.

You might also want to upgrade the ov511 driver (the Webcam III driver). See http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511

i need a program to automatically get photos so i can use the cam as a
webcam...

W3Cam <http://www.hdk-berlin.de/~rasca/w3cam/> does this. It also includes vidcat, which is another useful tool for testing. Note that you must specify the color palette manually with the "-p r" option.

Camserv <http://cserv.sourceforge.net/> is good to try if you want video on your webpage, instead of just a still image updated every minute or so (like W3Cam).
