With these settings the 1GHz machine is at 100% on a clear signal, with
the noisy stuff that looked heavy. (mplayer-cvs-20030915 and
libavcodec-cvs from the same day)

On my disk is a archive named ffmpeg-cvs-2003-08-07-av-in-sync-now. I
used a more recent version last for days doing seekable timeshift mpeg
playback with mplayer on some test kernels before I fetched the
necessary upgrade for nvrec.

40 minutes lavrec (mjpegtools-1.6.1.90-1.rpm) 720x576, 16bit stereo and
mjpeg gives me lost frames zero, ins/del 1996/000 and audio errors:000
and it is fine. (Unmuted with v4lctl because there seem to be issues or
I didn't get it for now)

Mp4live (mpeg4ip) did a/v synced recordings with the 1x version of the
driver on 2.4.19 and that is now one year ago and of course I saw xawtv
and streamer working.

To come back to your own recommendation, what card brand you have? Did
you find users of the same card with the same unsufficient results?

Greetings

Hermann
