Great, thanks for the input. And thanks for reminding me to ask the list
subscribers to please update me on the status of the driver for your
webcam if it's different from what is in the document. In particular, is
it in the vanilla 2.4 kernel already (and if so which versions), and
what is the planned support (if any) for the upcoming 2.6 kernel.
Also I've added some info to the framegrabber section today; see
http://hshanemd.net/docs/HOWTOS/Webcam/framegrabbers.html
Thanks!

Hello all,
I have written the first draft of a Webcam HOWTO for the Linux
Documentation Project that will try to tackle hardware and
configuration issues of webcam devices under linux. It includes the
basics of enabling support for USB and non-USB webcams, and brief
info on frame-grabbing applications. Some of the info was adapted
from my previously completed Scanner-HOWTO. There are already BTTV,
Framebuffer and USB-Digital-Camera HOWTOs so I won't be covering
those.
That's a great idea, good luck to you.
I'm interested in any input you all can give me, particularly brief
notes that detail what it took to get your particular type of
hardware working, or any corrections you think will improve the
technical content or readability of the document. Those who
contribute useful info will be referenced where appropriate if they
so desire.
I have been using logitech quick cam express for few years now
(pictures and live snapshots can be seen on my web page, url bellow)
I use the qce-ga kernel module (http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net) and it
works fine.
One thing I could add, and could help future users, is that the
source of the module does not compile on rh9.0, and a patch to fix
that can be found at http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~tuukkat/quickcam/ this is
because RH have changed some functions' prototype of the "their"
kernel source.
I should add though, that the patch is not needed if the module is
compiled against an official kernel release (2.4.21 in my case).
The draft is at the following site:

Thanks! hs
