For me X11 is the preferred solution on a multimedia machine. There may be reasons for using the console, but that is not one of my hobbys. To avoid to buy a second tv-card (that has implications too), using xine with nvrec and as seen now with ffmpeg is the preferred solution for me at this stage. To have timeshift on recordings from multiple machines, even with multiple grabber-cards in each and have it available over the net, and if wanted realtime preview in overlay, should serve the needs of an average user :) Maybe someone here with a bt-card has more suggestions.
