ati tv wonder comes up with audio initialized

>From the Mythtv list, the web, and experience I know this is a problem with
the ATI TV Wonder cards, but I haven't seen a solution for it yet.

The problem is that when bttv is initialized, the audio starts playing from
the ATI card on whatever tv station it is currently tuned to. What I'd like
it to be able to initialize the card without having the audio come on until I
startup mythtv or xawtv.

Currently the only way to get rid of the audio other than muting the mic
input (my avermedia tvphone is plugged into the line-in on the sound card) is
to start up xawtv then close it, once I've done that the audio coming in on
the mic input goes away.

I am running Mandrake 8.2 with clean (non distro) 2.4.20 kernel

Can't remember if I am using the built in kernel driver or not, although I
vaguely remember compiling the latest bttv drivers at the time about a year
or so ago.
