Are you sure your tuner setting is correct? The default uses the 
LG "newer TAPC" model. You can override with the insmod option 'card=3
tuner=XX'

Mencoder doesn't take audio from the sound card AFAIK (might be able to
force it to get audio input from /dev/dsp, but it'll be out of sync).
You'll have to use another recorder. nvrec works.

Probably a tuner/card selection issue. (See first issue). You probably
need to specify the card type manually since earlier FV2K can't be
autodetected.
