Hi

I have a relatively new Hauppage WinTV board (February 2003).

How do I tell what chip it has?

Look at the board with component side in front, PCI connector at the bottom, backplane at the left. At bottom right you should see a 1-inch-by-1-inch IC. If it is labelled "CONEXANT BROADCAST DECODER CX23881..." (or anything *NOT* something878something) then it is one of the 'new' boards. "New lamps for old", eh?

If it is a 881, check the box thoroughly. If yours asserts the thing is supported with Linux, you are entitled to exchange or refund. And if your reseller wants to exchange, they MUST open the new box to check it!

I wrote Hauppage support and they told me that all WinTV products now
use the new chip (cx21881), only the WinTV Theather still uses the BT878
