Go to the gatos web site (http://gatos.sourceforge.net) and get the ati.2 tar file for your system (Read the instructions carefully to get the correct one.) I just untarred it in the /usr directory, it installed in the proper places in my X directories, and xawtv worked. If you want capture as well, you need to install some other stuff from the gatos site (drm and km). (I haven't done that yet.) I should point out that someone else tried this with an smp system and reported on this list that it didn't work. I don't know why. It was simple for me. You could also install the gatos tv viewing program avview. I didn't since I like xawtv just fine.
