Chronic bttv module loading problems (v. 0.7.106)

I was having this problem initially with my Slackware 9 bttv.o module. So I tried downloading and compiling from the source at:

   http://bytesex.org/bttv/

After compiling, and doing a "make install" I still get the following error when trying to load the bttv module.

/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: unresolved symbol mod_firmware_load_R39e3dd23
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod bttv failed

Someone on the comp.os.linux.setup group was pointing me to sections of the code that rely on soundcore.o. I can see where that might be a problem, but sounds strange that soundcore.o is necessary for bttv. IE., I don't use the built in linux kernel sound drivers. I use OSS.

I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem.

Does anyone have a clue as to how I can load this driver? I've tried loading it w/o any card installed and then with my Osprey100 card installed. No dice either way.

Thanks,

DT
