17 milliseconds is one field, makes 33 ms capture time for a full
640x480 frame composed by interleaving two fields.  Should give you 66
ms worst-case and 50 ms average latency (+ syscall overhead) until a
frame is returned ...

100 ms is alot.  What driver you are talking about?
