xawtv & vlc won't work

I have up-to-date RH V8.0 on a Pent IV 1.6 ghtz w/512k memory. A 40 gig Hd
w/85% free space. I have Cox cable on a cable modem along with the Cox TV
setup.

I have an AverTV video card installed and it's input is from the Cox cable
connector and sound out to a sound system from same card.

This works quite well and am able to watch all the cable tv stations fine.

Now I recently installed 'vlc' from www.videolan.org and installed that as an
rpm. I am at loss as to how to set this up so that I can stream mpeg files
and the live videos from ipv4 (I think that is valid interface) I also have a
bttv driver installed for the xawtv program that I run for the AverTV card.

I have subscribed and posted on the videolan.org help list but no one answers.

Here are copies of the modules I have installed;

And here is a debug output from the 'VLC Gnome Interface' icon menu.

And the comment section at bottem of this says 'no server'.

The above debug I was able to setup with the vlc settings menu but where do I
start it to work ??? Do I have to have xawtv running to view the TV of can I
view from the vlc menu ???.

Frustrated in S.D. Ca. USA.
