volume and device choice

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I have an athlon machine with a single hauppauge wintv bt878 based
card. It is running debian and had been happily running an older bttv.

A couple of days ago, I compiled and installed a 2.4.20 kernel package
with v4l but no bttv. After a reboot, I built bttv-0.7.106 (5?) and
bttv-0.9.9 and installed them.

Now I have two problems.

First is that bttv seems to insist on using /dev/video1 and /dev/vbi1.
Why doesn't it use the 0 devices?

Second, if I try to record using mencoder or the debian vcr, no sound
will be audible unless I first start xawtv and manually move the volume
slider.

I am using the latest debian xawtv (3.86) which seems always to start
out with the volume down at zero. It doesn't seem to matter what volume
I give in the config, nor what options I give to the bttv module
(I thought perhaps automute might be related, but I guess it isn't).

Am I doing something wrong?

Also, I notice that the volume levels of the S-Video and the Television
inputs are not at all matched. I can't figure out what device (mixer?)
is being used. It doesn't seem to matter what setting I give for the line
input (which the previous bttv I was using used to control the tv card
volume).

Any suggestions on where the control has moved?

thanks,

-jonathan
