Hi John thanks for your hint: but .. the .xawtv or xawtrc file do not have any influence on the picture. Instead I installed the camE (http://linuxbrit.co.uk/camE/) program (based on the xawtv webcam program). The pictures are color adjustable now, the ftp setup in camE is not as robust as in the original xawtv webcam program. Buying a solid modem is solving the problem (I think)..
