Tuners are in the "Tuners" file, cards are in
"Cards" and "CARDLIST".
Your card=27 is for a MAXI TV Video PCI2,
not an AVerMedia StudioPro. (card=41 or 6 or 13?)
You were right on the tuner, it is a Philips NTSC, tuner=2
The MAKEDEV file will create your devices for you,
but perhaps not /dev/mixerX

Ok, I tried tuner=27, card=27 tuner=2, and card=27 tuner=27. I also
pulled the sticker off and had a look, I found the following:
Philips
33139 134110C
FM1236/PH hm
SV22 0205
If I had to pick one I'd guess that the tuner is and FM 1236/PH but I
can't find any of these magic numbers in CARDLIST or Cards. In any event
tuner=2 makes the video work fine, tuner=27 seems to leave out a few
stations, whatever that may indicate. Any suggestions? Any how does the
audio look when its working? What is the TVaudio/audio mixer device in
/dev? Could somebody post a commented ls -l showing these devices?

My guess is you really need tuner=27 for this card.
All the detection is pretty well dependent on getting
the right card & tuner, and while sometimes it can
autodetect, quite often it autodetects a wrong value.
Look under the label on your tuner for actual numbers
and correlate them with the list in Tuners and see what
you really have.

Ok, I'm kind of confused about how the audio setup is supposed to work. I
seem to have a module called tvaudio and one called tvmixer but I have no
corresponding devices. How are the tv programs supposed to have access to
these drivers? According to Cardlist the AVerTV Studio has a Tda9840
sound chip supported by tvaudio. I can see tvaudio module loading but no
indication of it finding anything. tvmixer says the Phillips NTSC has no
mixer. I can get video through xawtv with modprobe bttv tuner=2 radio=1,
but no sound even bypassing the sound card. I'm using bttv 0.7.94 against
a customized 2.4.18 kernel but I have not patched the kernel with the
bttv code, rather I've been compiling it separately.
Any suggestions? Logs that would help diagnose this problem? Is this a
card problem or did I miss a manual to read? I have until Friday to
return the card if this can't be made to work.
