This reply is in response to Justin and Roberts emails collectively: I modified the mp1e source as per Roberts instructions, changing the file open permissions to read and write. However now I get a kernel panic and total system crash when I run mp1e - I can't paste the kernel panic message here because I can't cut and paste it, and it's too long and convoluted to write out onto paper, but it basically says there was a null pointer dereference within the kernel. My caps and scroll-lock keyboard lights start blinking - not seen that before - but all that remains is to press the reset button. As a sanity check, I went back to the old source (pre-modified) and checked it was still doing what it was doing originally. And it was. I get the exact same thing with NVrec - kernel panic and an effective machine halt. I'm really not having much luck with video capture. I can't understand why I can view TV almost 100% (except for the annoying random static problem I get now and again - detailed in a separate post) but I can't seem to get any program at all (except dvr) to actually capture. Even mencoder causes X to crash. Very odd. Thanks for your replies, David. > --__--__-- > > Message: 8 > Date: Fri, 31 May 2002 08:31:12 +0200 > From: Justin Schoeman <justin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Organization: University of Pretoria > To: video4linux-list@xxxxxxxxxx > Subject: Re: saa7134/Flyvideo3000 and Mp1e > Reply-To: video4linux-list@xxxxxxxxxx > > Have a look at: > http://bytesex.org/bttv/ > > Especially the last point under the 0.8.x heading...
