how true is this?

hi V4L folks,

i was reading the broadcast2000 docs and it was summarizing the various
linux video projects. it spoke of V4L1, but then also mentioned V4L2.
(note this was what shipped on suse 8.0)

it asserted that V4L2 had been abandoned due academic reasons.

visiting thedirks.org, V4L2 seems far from death.

can anyone knowing the legacy of V4L* clear my confusion?

i want to add new hw support and had planned to start with v4l2.

tia, jackc...
