  That happened to me too.

  If I typed the commands, it worked. If I scripted them, it
locked up solid.

  It was indeed timing, I put "sleep 5" between each command
in my scripts and it doesn't lock up anymore.

  I can also reproduce the hard lockup if I use xawtv and
am really fast with the mouse to change a few settings at
once, likely the same issue of sending too many v4lctl
commands too fast.
