In most cases, even in a common format (YUV I420/YUY2 or RGB 24/16/32/8). This means that you could use the same applications for things like frame-grabbing and TV/webcam watching if these devices share the same API. It's great that xawtv allows me to view video streaming from a Logitech Quickcam.
