I am looking for suggestions for a webcam to be used for
videoconferencing. I was originally going to purchase the Phillips PC
Video Camera, specifically the PCVC740K, but it has been discontinued.
The Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 was suggested as a replacement. Anyone
have experience with this camera or have alternative suggestions?
Thanks,

I have had great results with the Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 since it
was incorporated into the kernel tree. I only used the pcwx module once
and there is a considerable difference! I also work with the Kensington
SVGA camera. It superior performance up until I ran it on a Linux
Mandrake 8.2 beta2 release. Extremely disappointing. Back onto the
subject of the Logitech webcam... It is crisp and runs great in
gnomemeeting and using xawtv. Anything else I am clueless about as I am
a v4l newbie. I too, am working on making a videoconferencing software.
I'm trying to make it completely in java. Right now, I'm debating if it
is possible to make a java based v4l2 program and then tie the
videoconferencing software into that. So currentlyy, I'm up to my
eyeballs in manuals and code. HTH
