Ok, I've made a fair bit of progress, I can now get the tuner to tune channels properly. Thanks to all who helped. It was my own stupidity really, I had the freqtab=us-cable in the .xawtv's [defaults] section not the [globals] section. That and I had to learn to hit the cursor keys in xawtv. ;> Now my problem is getting the sound. With bttv, I can get the channel sound to come out of the 1/8th inch jack on the back of the card. Not exactly what I want, but it's a start. However, I am unable to get the sound working from the tuner at all when using bttv2. Background: - Linux 2.4.16 - BTTV2 driver is from http://bttv-v4l2.sourceforge.net/download/driver-20010625.tgz - I am using bttv2 because I want to use mp1e, which seems to want v4l2. - Card is a Hauppauge Wincast/TV, with a TDA9850 chip visible. This is a bt848 card, not a bt878. In my muddling around, I was able to do a few things that seemed to at least detect the audio chip. The following module installs were done in the driver-20010625 directory: insmod tvaudio.o tda9850=1 ...gives me this in dmesg: tvaudio: TV audio decoder + audio/video mux driver tvaudio: known chips: tda9840,tda9873h,tda9850,tda9855,tea6300,tea6420,tda8425,pic16c54 (PV951) i2c-core.o: driver generic i2c audio driver registered. bttv0: i2c attach [tda9850] i2c-core.o: client [tda9850] registered to adapter [bt848 #0](pos. 1). Then: insmod tvmixer.o ...gives me: tvmixer: debug: Philips NTSC tvmixer: debug: tda9850 ...and that's about all that seems to make sense. Really, I'm just playing around though, I'm not sure exactly which modules I actually need for sound so the above might be totally offbase anyways. Is there a sure-fire process to get sound working on this card? My eventual goal is to use mp1e to record audio and video from a tuned channel, so I need to be able to get sound from the tuner available to other apps. Does this need to be wired to another input on my sound card? Thanks for the help. It's weird to be a newbie I've ran bttv under linux for a half decade but this is my first tuner... -- Trevor Boicey, P. Eng.
