The '848 chip is past tense; the Bt878 chip is currently in production 
(Although the Conexant web site does list it as "not recommended for new
designs").   
Lots of PCI cards use this chip.   

Followup questions:
- which are the least expensive no-frills one that have been seen?
- my understanding is that if you don't care about the tuner (just
	composite or Svideo input), all '878 cards are pretty much the
	same and "just work" with V4L.   True or False?
