The '848 chip is past tense; the Bt878 chip is currently in production (Although the Conexant web site does list it as "not recommended for new designs"). Lots of PCI cards use this chip. Followup questions: - which are the least expensive no-frills one that have been seen? - my understanding is that if you don't care about the tuner (just composite or Svideo input), all '878 cards are pretty much the same and "just work" with V4L.
