That unfortunately requires kernel source patching.  The above
referenced v4l2 doesn't.  You can build all that is needed outside of
the kernel tree and just insmod the modules.

It's not as if I can't build a kernel, I just don't want to have to
patch and build a kernel every time one comes out.  My distro vendor's
kernel suits me just fine (outside of wanting bttv 0.8 that is.  :-).

Is it possible to make bttv 0.8 and it's v4l2 patch a package that can
be built outside of the kernel tree?  Even if there was simply a
script to "extract" what was needed out of the kernel source tree into
the bttv 0.8 build directory, patch it and then build it, that would
be nice. 

If somebody wants to give me a quick "what do I need" I will take a
crack at it.
