It seems the segmentation fault is caused by shared lib modules installed by
xawtv. Removing these shared libs from /usr/local/lib/xawtv (rm -r
/usr/local/lib/xawtv)
and reinstall xawtv version 3.70 solves the problem for me. This with bttv
driver 0.7.89
and Linux 2.4.17.

Will try xawtv 3.70 tomorrow at work with a SAA7134 based card.
