I've noticed that the upper part of the (horizontal) display, it will be slighly distorted or miscolored. When i switched to digital satellite service, i was obtaining the signal straight from the satellite adn the signal was only being pipped over ~25ft of cable to my digital cable box and then onto my tv or computer. The signal quality and display was a phenominal difference when comparing to the service being piped over ~100 miles of cable (of which, any fractures or degradation in that ~100 miles of cable could inadvertantly affect signal quality also). Now, i have no idea about analog cable. as far as i know, many cable providers have switched to the higher quality of digital cable (which is actually converted to a type of mpeg format or *something* already). > Iam using bttv-0.7.89, xawtv-3.68, XFree-4.2 and have tried all the card picture > adjustments and insmod options with the card detected as #39. My /etc/modules.conf: alias char-major-81 bttv options bttv gbuffers=32 card=52 pll=0 radio=0 (gbuffers greatly helps when recording with this card) > > Does this indicate a faulty card ? Is there some other adjustment i can try? > Or are there better quality tuners i can buy? also, if you're trying to record from a video tape recorder, i've noticed here on my 1994 panasonic vhs recorder, the signal was awful and i cannot record from it without getting allot of dropped frames. this is due to the vhs player's h/w playback mechanism (or *something*). posted this awhile back on this forum also. You will notice a slight difference in quality when using gold cables. When i record, i usually use gold cables. If i'm just playing back audio, the simple metalic rca connectors due just fine. When i get to video, i usually just use gold connectors. (slightly better color) Also, try using S-Video instead of composite connector. Again, a slightly better signal quality & color. (*Note, gold cables, S-Video, this all tends to add-up to a noticable better quality) To conclude, it does sound like you're using an rf connector and using the PCTV Studio's card tuner for tuneing channels? I've never used the rf connector/tuner on my card. I've always used the S-Video (and if the program doesn't recognize this, i then drop to Composite (rca connector)) and then i would pipe the stereo audio thru my sblive values Line-In. So, i have: 1) ~25-50ft of S-Video cable with gold connectors. 2) ~25-50 of Composite + Stereo RCA cable with gold connectors. 3) 2 RCA Connector Converter to my input jack of my sblive card's Line-In. (dual rca (stereo) convertor to stereo headphone jack...can be found in any Radio Shack or ordered thru them...gold again, of course.) With digital satellite service, i get a good crisp picture here. > > -- > Save bandwidth and time - Get Mailfilter - The Anti-Spam Utility > http://mailfilter.sourceforge.net/index.html > > > > _______________________________________________ > Video4linux-list mailing list > Video4linux-list@xxxxxxxxxx > https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/video4linux-list
