The mjpegtools also have some advanced mpeg motion compensation code (used in our MPEG encoder mpeg2enc) but this only gets realtime when you have a very fast CPU, mpeg2enc isn't the fastest MPEG encoder around (the resulting MPEG movies are excellent, though).
