You don't need v4l-conf and you want to run "xawtv -remote" to suppress overlay warnings. > Running xawtv, it displayed a very blur picture and the following messages: > > $ ./xawtv -v > This is xawtv-/home/yudehu/dev/XawTV/3.64, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.2-2) > /dev/video0 [v4l]: no overlay support > v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway > station "-v" not found > ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(0,fmt=5,size=176x144): Invalid argument xawtv was probing for the supported format? > v4l: timeout (got SIGALRM), hardware/driver problems? > ioctl: VIDIOCSYNC(0): Interrupted system call > v4l: timeout (got SIGALRM), hardware/driver problems? > ioctl: VIDIOCSYNC(1): Interrupted system call The driver failed to deliver a frame in a reasonable time. I suggest you inspect /var/log/messages and maybe contact the author of the driver directly. Switch from usb-uhci to uhci, or the other way around if you have UHCI host controller. > Can I run the xawtv without capture card (hardware overlay)? Yes.
