3rd (and hopfully last!) beta release of mjpegtools 1.3 As well as fixing bugs in 1.3 beta2 the new release adds: - Improved interoperability. 422 MJPEG video in AVI and quicktime streams created with xawtv's "streamer" capture tool can now be editted, played back and compressed to MPEG. With a 450Mhz+ CPU it is possible to capture, edit and compress video to VCD/MPEG1 using any card supported by xawtv. The MPEG1 output is known to play correctly on MS Media player plus pretty much any of the linux MPEG players. MPEG1 is know to work correctly with dxr2 boards, mtv, and smpeg based MPEG1 players. MPEG2 works with dxr2, and libmpeg2 based MPEG-1/2 players like oms and xine. VCD/SVCD streams can be burnt to CD using vcdimager for playback on VCD/SVCD and suitable DVD players. - MPEG2 and SVCD. MPEG2 support for compression for frame and field-interlace encoded video sequences. Options to create SVCD compliant MPEG suitable for burning to CD using vcdimager and cdrdao. - Improved audio capture. SB-Live and other cards with relatively large sync latencies now work correctly. - Improved patches to mpeg2dec and ac3dec to support transcoding of DVD and DTV to SVCD, VCD or custom MPEG1/2 formats. - Support for Serguei's new unified Zoran MJPEG driver (buz/lml33/dc10/dc10+). - Speed and quality improvements. A Duron 700 will encode VCD-compliant MPEG1 video at 20 frames/sec with with good quality motion compensation (16 pixel/frame search radius), accurate quantisation and predictive/adaptive bit-allocation. Initial support for chrominance matching in motion compensation to minimise artefacting in highly active sequences. Known issues Capture on Matrox hardware may get image width wrong (a Matrox owner is working on a fix). RH7's version of gcc appears to cause some issues in compilation (an RH7 owner is working on a patch). Soundblaster PCI128 may cause capture problems (at least if lavrec is not installed suid root) a fix has been identified. As always bug reports are welcome. Use the bug reporting goodies on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/bugs/?group_id=5776) or drop Gernot or me an email. Kudos to Rainer Johanni whose 1.2 did all the hard work. Thanks to Bernhard, Mike Bernson, Gernot, and all the other folk who contributed. Andrew
