multiple inputs

Is there any way to use many video sources simultaneously under Linux?
Many, as in a dozen, or perhaps more.

I understand there are two parts of the problem:
- hardware: some device must be used, which has many video inputs, and
is supported under Linux
- software: the v4l drivers must be able to deal with so many sources
The sources don't generate too many frames per second (way below
standard NTSC framerate), so CPU usage might not be an issue.

Any ideas?
