Playback of some VHS tapes jerky/stuttering (composite input)

Hi

First I think this is not tuner card problem because it works just fine in windoze. Anyway I borrowed some vhs tapes and played them twith vcr connected to composite input of my pinnacle pctv rave tuner. Some tapes played perfectly but some were jerky and stuttering, like two frames were joined in one and characters jumping forward and back, like very short fast forward and fast rewind. Playback would come back to a halt every few seconds and then continue. Tapes were not damaged, playback to TV looked ok.
I've also got this warning from bttv (0.9.11)
bttv0: skipped frame. no signal? high irq latency?
I get this only when there's bad reception or weak signal. I think bttv has troubles decoding frames from some VHS tapes. It should't be hardware problems (msi-kt266pro2 mb) since some tapes play perfectly through bttv and some don't. Any ideas how I could debug what kind of frames/fields bttv has problems with?
regards
