Tried pressing ctrl-alt-f1, to switch from the graphical login to a console
screen?

With such problems it's generaly wise to not have the machine start up
an X-login, but to start X from the commandline. Should be accomplished be
changing
id:5:initdefault:
to
id:3:initdefault:
in /etc/inittab
Or perhaps be selecting it at install-time.

All the best,
rob

PS: you forgot to set a subject for you mail
PPS: I don't think this is the appropriate list for such problems, perhaps
a general (or RH) linux-list would be better
