You could do it with multiple video FIFO devices. Years ago (I've said that allready) but suffice it to say pre internet I wanted make an affordable production switcher for non syncronous sources. Each channel was going to be a mini tbc as follows
1) Anaalogue Inputs to ADC
2 ADC to Video Fifo
3) FIFO to DAC
4) DAC to analogue multiplexer

Perhaps you could go

1) Multiple BT8 inputs
2)BT8 outputs to individual FIFO
3)GUI controlled Multiplex
4)Output stage DAC and/or ieee1394

Heres a good fifo referance: http://www.averlogic.com/video_FIFO/video_FIFO.html

My 2cents worth.

Daniel,

I can't see any way to get a decent cross fade out of this chip, unless you genlock the cameras. It would still be pretty poor though. To properly crossfade, you need to capture both streams at the same time. With genlock, you could *maybe* have a 1/2 framerate cross fade. I was thinking, have the LM1881 operate the video switch. This would mean the BT878 doesn't have to switch inputs. Maybe the 878 doesn't have such a hard time locking the new signal, it just needs time to physically switch? Should be easy to investigate anyway. Yes we are manufacturing for this.
