Well, Jeremy, this is beyond me - you'll have to cry for help harder, I'm
afraid. I still wonder why:

this says 48x32. 

Mind, the patch I mentioned is to the v4l2 interface, which is exactly the one
which is giving you the hard time. This doesn't change the driver for your card,
only the interface between the driver and the user software like xawtv.
You still need the bttv driver which is the interface to your card (the BT878).
(and which comes with the kernel, you didn't compile a newer version of bttv,
didn't you? Then you'll surely need the v4l2 patch)
