Have audio but not video with TV tuner

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello All,

I am running Debian unstable. I have kernel version 2.4.9 with bttv
version 0.7.81. I am running XFree86 4.1.0 and xawtv version 3.64. I
have an NVIDIA GeForce 256 video card using the latest version of the
NVIDIA drivers. My TV card uses the Bt878 chipset - I believe it is an
STB2 TV tuner. I use the following options in my /etc/modules.conf
file:

options tvaudio tea6420=1
options tuner type=2
options bttv card=40 radio=1
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv

My card worked fine up until 3 or 4 days ago. I could see the picture,
hear the audio - everything was great. Then I had cause the remove my TV
card, to have access to my NIC (I needed to see the actual chipset
used.) After replacing all of the cards (in the original slots) I
booted back up. Xawtv now gave errors when it attempted to access the
video device. Additionally the picture was all black - no static or
anything else. However, I could still "tune" the tuner. When I changed
channels the audio would switch to the new channel. Just no picture.

Today, I rearranged the cards (all PCI incidentally) in an attempt to
clear up any shared IRQs. The TV tuner now has IRQ 9 all to itself. Now
when I run xawtv I see green static interrupted by pink bands running
horizontally across the screen. It doesn't matter which channel I tune -
the "picture" remains the same. The audio still changes to the correct
channel however. I have tried starting X both with and without the v4l
module. If I don't use the v4l module I again get the hardware errors
and black screen. If I use the module I get the before mentioned static
and banding.

Any ideas what could be wrong? I'll appreciate any suggestions.

later,
joseph
