Do you want to generate PAL scanrates - to drive a composite monitor or a
TV, or are you just looking for a 768x576 mode for your monitor?

If its the former, I use:

Section "Monitor"
    # Mode suitable for driving bt869.o 720x576 mode
    Identifier "PAL TV via BT869"
    VendorName "Unknown"
    ModelName "Unknown"
    HorizSync 30-40
    VertRefresh 45.0-55.0
# DisplaySize 426 320
    Mode "720x576-BT869"
         DotClock 27.5
         HTimings 720 744 800 880
         VTimings 576 581 583 625
    EndMode
EndSection

(well - that's 720x576 actually).

Incidentally, I also have a patch for the bt869 driver in the lm_sensors
package that will program the bt869 correctly to push this out to a
TV/composite monitor.
