v4l and xfree86-4.0.3 and xawtv

Hello,
recently brought a geforce2 gts card, and
installed xfree86-4.0.3. i have included the `load'ing
of the "glx", "v4l" modules in the xf86config file.
When X starts up, it loads both modules without any
complains. But when i start xawtv, it complains that
XVideo was not found, and hence taxes the cpu.
I have installed the drivers provided by nvidia,
and everything works fine (even q3 at 1024x768).
Is v4l required when i have my bttv drivers
installed? could anyone explain the general work of
bttv, v4l, and how X uses them?
any help or information is thankful.
thanks.
gs.
