Thanks guys.
Gerd, I applied that patch to
/usr/src/linux/drivers/media/video/tuner.c, added back my options lines
to /etc/modules.d/v4l and ran modules-update (tuner with type=33 and
card with card=39). When I rebooted, there didn't seem to be any
errors, it was recognised as an MT20xx universal and the tuner reports
that a microtune MT2050 was found.
However, when I try and run scantv -c /dev/v4l/video0, it still finds
nothing. I get this message (once) in /var/log/messages, however:
<DATE/TIME> gentoo tuner: TV freq (0.00) out of range (44-958)
I also noticed that channels 1 - 11 are scanned, and then it jumps up
to 28 - 69. This may have something to do with the frequencies used
over here though. (I've chosen the PAL option (0), and Australia (9) at
the prompts in scantv).
Thanks a lot!

I get the same error in my Redhat 9. I have read all the messages in
this list, compiled different kernerls from source (the last was
2.6.0-test11), applied Kraxel patches,... but nothing.
My card is a Pinnacle PCTV Rave (red card) and I live in Italy (PAL).
Thank you to all of you for trying to get these Pinnacle cards working.
