Ummm. It may be time to roll up the sleeves and dig into a custom kernel. There are V4l patches available at bytesex.org for 2.4.23 and 2.6.0. There is a replacement for bttv modules (v 0.9). V 0.7 is what is shipped with the kernel. The bttv module will standalone compile and you just have to link it into the proper /lib/modules directory. 2.4.23 is the logical course to start with. 2.6.0 requires a lot of other supporting tools to be updated/installed. I haven't quite got all the pieces together myself.
